Success Principle Review – Wk 3 Day 2

I think I was out a little with my days – week 3 opened up yesterday. This week we’re into some fairly cool stuff – mostly about setting goals and a bit about affirmations. I’m not an outgoing person so the idea of shouting at a mirror has always bothered me! Fortunately these are self-talk affirmations… the ones you do in your head. So I now have some specific goals and a timeline for those goals – they will be reached this year.

While I’ve been doing the Success Principle course I’ve also been listening to some Jim Rohn tapes every day. They’ve become a highlight now – I really do enjoy listening to him. Lots of words of wisdom in there and unbelievable how much of it is so basic. Jim mentions that quite often – that this is all about fundamentals and once you hear it a few times you start to realise. Not because your being ‘programmed’ – the mere thought of that probably scares some people – but just because it makes so much sense.

Let me explain with an example. There’s an equation that Jim mentions – that about 5 or 6 of the things that we do makes around 80% of the difference to our lives. With your health for example – five or six good health practices will generally keep you in good shape. A basketball player… or any sports person… doesn’t need to  have 500 skills that they are really good at – they only need a few. The message in there is that we tend to spend too much time on the things that don’t really matter and not enough time on the important stuff. Doesn’t that make sense?

If you have doubts about the power of positive thinking then think about this. Sure, you can’t become wealthy just because you tell yourself every day that you’re going to be wealthy. Jim Rohn hit the nail on the head when he said there’s a fine line between motivation and kidding yourself. You have to learn new skills, work hard and really be committed. How far do you think you will go though, if right from the start you don’t think you could have more than what you have now? You’ve already defeated yourself!

On the other hand, if you do have a positive attitude towards having more time, more money or a new car then you are giving yourself a fighting chance as long as you follow that up with some learning, hard work etc.

I’ve been trying a few different blog themes by the way, so don’t be surprised if it keeps changing over the next few days :)
